Hello All

Not sure if this little netbook is one of the many clones but here is the link

If any one could let me know and if there is a way to get an xterm on it.

Thanx

I got a used VPC yesterday and I have already started putting apps from LLL on it.

I don’t really know if it supports the xap packages used here, since they are just tar.bz2 files I extract them (to get the tar) and then go into xterm (which gives me root access) and run “tar -xvf file.tar” to put everything in the right folder.

For xterm I extracted and untarred on my main computer (using winrar or 7zip) this gives you several files that would go in the bin folder.
-copy them to an SD or USB
-put the SD/USB in the VPC
-open file manager
-double click xterm

If you minimize xterm you won’t be able to get to it or re-run it until you reboot, so close when you’re done with it.

I was able to use tar -xvf from xterm to install SDL and SNES9X on it and run SNES9X.

One odd thing, I found another copy of the SNES9X binary on the NAND where I didn’t put it, and the datestamp was July. I don’t think the original owner was that technical, so maybe this thing has snes9x preinstalled by with no desktop shortcut?????

FYI, I’ve tried holding F3 and holding L-Shift, R-Shift, Fn when powering on and neither seems to give me a prompt for SD card with restore image.

I sent an email to Fidelity asking them how they load their images (if it doesn’t come preloaded from China) and if they could give me any tips, and that I know that would mean I get no support on my VPC afterwards.

update on the snes9x thing

It also comes with a file loader front end called snesui

I also found a Nes emulator on it.

Both of these are undocumented and not available in the matchbox desktop, but i suppose i could build icons for them under games.

the video player appears to be mplayer instead of xine

pretty decent setup in my opinion, just needs icons for the emus
